In this interview photographer Rena Small discusses her years as a student in the Feminist Art Program at CalArts, and her subsequent apprenticeship to Lynda Benglis, during which time she designed and built an hermaphroditic dog puppet for Benglis' first narrative video piece. She also tells the story of the Kipper Kids interrupting a class at CalArts, and the students' rejoinder during a Kipper Kids performance at LAICA. This interview was conducted by Thomas Lawson in Los Angeles on August 14, 2011. Camera and sound by Larissa Brantner James.
