The 200 bhp 2.4 JTDM 20v engine is now available in the Alfa Spider. The new unit has 5 cylinders in line and is the most powerful engine in the JTD multivalve Multijet family, with a power output of 84 bhp/litre. The new version, which also features a sporty 6-speed gearbox, will be on the market in Italy and Germany in mid-February, followed shortly thereafter by other markets. The open sports car has always played an important role in Alfa Romeo tradition.

Obviously California, which is ironic as we can't buy Diesel cars here in the USA because of the California Air Resources Board. Go figure.

As a happy 156 2.5 V6 owner and having just driven the Spider 2.4 JTD I can tell you this: You can't beat the feeling, sound and even looks of the legendary Alfa V6 petrol engine, but that devilish little diesel Spider is an absolute gem! The torque of the TD engine is immense.. it doesn't feel like a diesel at all, bar the lack of high rev screaming. I'd have one please! On the other hand, the term petrolhead has been around for years; has anyone ever heard or used the term dieselhead?
