  • Well, this is yelling compared to the way Callas sings it.. Wow, talk about overkill on those ascending notes. And the coloratura.. ( H's galore.. another Caballe trademark.). Caballe's singing was always so banal. this just proves it. I hate to compare her to Callas, but to be honest, Callas' interpretation of this aria, has yet to be matched by anyone..

  • @kgarmaker123

Well, Caballe did not have easy coloratura, did not have easy top notes, did not have easy low notes...so what do you expect? :P with that in mind, I think she did a decent job, she stuck to "as written" as Jennifer Larmore does as well, though Larmore's agility is superior and so are her low and high notes, LOL.

But truly, nobody can outdo Callas as "Armida", she not only overcomes the difficulties with incredible ease but also adds more dazzling vocal displays of virtuosity

  • Do you know if she recorded other arias from Armida? Never know of that!

  • @jovi1715

No, just this for a recital of rare bel canto arias by Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi.

  • Does anyone know the year in which this was recorded?

  • @Dymension

Mid 70's, don't know exact date

  • @DiomedesDioscuro a mi tambien me molesta

  • @primohomme tienes toda la razon coincido con todo lo que dices y lo he leido todo

  • Nice belcanto singing, but prefere more dramatic version of this aria (Callas, Anderson).

  • I suppose some people feel it necessary to analyze every note, thinking that everyone else is as anal. For others, the pleasure of hearing Caballe's voice and the music itself is reason enough to simply enjoy the piece. Everyone's taste in music is different - what one dislikes and criticizes/critiques, others listen to and hear something entirely different. I am one who prefers listening to Caballe's voice, because to my ear, it is lovely.

  • @troppofiato1 Wow, I need to listen to my recordings more often! I have that on CD release...

  • @Dymension This is from an LP titled Rossini Rarities first issued in 1968. It included arias from Tancredi, La Donna del Lago, Otello, and the Stabat Mater.
