Since the other FFXIII videos I did were decently received I figured I'd show people how I went about farming dark matter from the ever deadly Shaolong Gui's. It's basically the same as the adamantoise method, you just don't have to use the auto brave/faith stuff and follow a bit different pattern with paradigms. First of all recommended gear:

Fang - Genji Glove, Sprint Shoes
Snow - Sprint Shoes, Connoisseur Catalog
Lightning - Genji Glove, Sprint Shoes

That's literally all you need. Can be done with any weapons, obviously the higher the better. Snow and Light in the video have a form of their ultimate weapons, but when I was actually farming for the dark matter they were still using tier 2. I would advise that you go ahead and use resist rings on Fang and Lightning against these guys as well, it's not needed once you get this method down but it will save you if something goes wrong, and very rarely these guys just seem to go berserk and chain abilities 3 or 4 times in a row if you're unlucky (in which case it would probably be better to just retry any way, but whatever).

Basically follow what I do here, once you get him staggered you can actually manage to keep him dazed the entire rest of the fight, which means he never gets to attack. You can cut your attacks short with Fang and generally leave the last daze still on him instead of attacking him and removing it. It's not needed usually but I try to do this because, as said, they can just go berserk for some reason sometimes and chain cast you into oblivion. In the case that he decides to throw out an Ultima before you get him dazed switch to the sen/sen/sen paradigm and then back to whatever you were.

Since the reason for fighting these guys as I see it is really only for dark matter I went for the easiest method I could. I advise using Aegisol, it is not needed for this strategy it simply speeds it up. If you don't use it Lightning will take longer to cast Enfire, so I just use it to get her to cast it right away. Just get 5 aegisol total, or 1 for however many dark matter you need, that way you don't have to waste a ton of money. Save at the station and go kill the Shaolong Gui, if you get a dark matter go save and repeat, if not just quit and reload to try again. Since you only fight these for the dark matter and you're not worried about making cp or gil (fight adamantoise for that) I find it's easiest/best to just do this save/reload method.

  • Do you need to be with Full Crystarium to do it as quickly?

Because My Lightning has around 17000 HP and Fang around 22000.

  • @JohnnyLeyenda Technically you should be able to do it where you are with the correct gear and if you can do it correctly. Being higher doesnt hurt your chances of surviving multiple attacks, but in the best case scenario you'll manage it so that he only gets his first starting attack and it won't matter. Even if he attacks more if you manage to switch to tortoise quick enough you should still have enough.

  • What weapon should I use for Snow?

I thought about the sacrificial circle, since it severely cranks up his STR & MAG (1020/1020 max) but will drop his HP to 18,000 from 30,000. I don't use Snow at all really, I go with Fang Lightning & Hope 99% of the time but it's either Snow or Sazh for this strat and I'd much prefer Snow to be my Dazer.

However again, I just don't know what weapon. I'm leaning on the Sacrificial Circle, Wild Bear or Feymark.

  • @Malacite It really shouldn't matter at all, particularly for Snow, since the main thing he's needed for is the daze spam and not any kind of actual damage. I wouldn't use the one that drops his HP just to be safe though.

  • @Pazuzoo360PSN

How can you say that though when the success rate of Daze is directly tied to his magic stat? Plus he had him go in there as a ravager to help stagger the turtle. I'm not so sure dropping his HP to 18k is all that bad - Lightning tops out at 20k and she didn't go red in the video.

  • @Malacite Because like I said in the video description, I don't even remember what weapon I was using with him but it was only tier 2 and it wasnt one with the stat focus in magic.

  • what is the song at 2:14?

  • @NANOFORGE Thanks! I'll keep farming before doing missions then.

  • @darkbyke I think they all turn into Shaolong Gui's when you do the first 63 missions.

  • I've actually nailed a good strategy for this (using Fang, Light & Hope). As long as he doesn't pull Bay out of his backside it's fairly foolproof. Only problem is I've killed 10 of these buggers now and nabbed ONE Dark Matter (even with the Conn Catalog). Square Enix just hates me.

  • Don't take this for granted. It all hinges on Daze sticking. I've yet to even complete this strategy since as soon as Daze misses, the Shaolong Gui finishes me with either Bay or Ultima, and my set-up is much akin to the uploader's.

  • Thanks Pazuzoo360PSN, if it wasnt for this video i would never have gotten my "Treasure Hunter" Achievement. Thank you.

  • @Golgolath Oh bummer. Some people have more luck in this game than others!

  • Anyone know at what point does it turn into Shaolong Gui? I have Adamantoise's
