@flippenpinoi Yes. I guess that looking back it's hard to understand facts that are easily explained by day to day decisions. Historicaly, I can't believe that a so influential pianist like Nat King Cole decided some day to sing silly songs instead of becoming an even greater jazz man. But if you can do well two things and one of them is much more appreciated and lucrative than the other, it's a matter of time that you take it as your main job. Anyway, it's a shame. Or two.
Lol. Honestly I think it was just Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole's way to joke with each other. I guess the real reason why Nat King Cole went to singing is truth be told there is more money in singing and well how many people know Nat King Cole versus Bud Powell. As for Oscar Peterson, well no one will ever swing as hard as him on piano and play such elegant lines as him so joking or serious i'd say that Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson's career choices worked out well for them and humanity
@nuncaeslupus Oscar Peterson said it during an interview with Andre Previn and i've also read it in a book called 88: The Giants of Jazz Piano by Brian Doerkshuk
apparently he made a deal with Oscar Peterson (who was a GREAT vocalist and i do mean GREAT) that if Oscar never sang and only played piano then Nat King Cole would only sing and not play piano again.
@flippenpinoi sure, but Art Tatum isn't as famous as Oscar Peterson but he's from another planet.

@flippenpinoi Thanks, flippenpinoi. Any reason why they did that? Was it necessary?

@flippenpinoi If that deal is really true, it would have been a crime! Two crimes! Where did you get that outstanding info?

Mainstream listeners love Nat's vocal stylings, but most forget what a fantastic pianist he was. A shame.
What touch, timing and style....
We were so lucky to have him.
