This original recording does not surprise me. White guys copied so much it's hard to find the truth except with the original record. Jerry Lee, Elvis even Pat Boon.

Roy Hall DID have the original, but he didn't have the umph to make it really fly, which becomes very clear on the chorus of the tune. Jerry Lee Lewis's version is great, of course, but I prefer Big Maybelle's. She changed the chorus, and it's more interesting to me at least. I also love the two-chorus sax solo: classic. This was produced by Quincy Jones!

Wow, the movie "Great Balls of Fire" did an awesome recreation of this! It's great to hear the original! The Deep River Boys version is great too!
