Visit www.EVsecrets.com & grab my new EV Conversion book + video package!

Good news! We've hit 1000km (621 miles) of gas free driving after less than 3 months on the road.

Now that the new charging system is installed we've been given a whole new lease of life. Recharging the Tredia now takes 2 hrs 45 mins from 50% empty to full - not bad huh? :)
The new charger also offers a much deeper charge meaning we're getting more distance out of a charge as well as charging being a lot more convenient. The extra money for the onboard charger was sure worth it.

The sustainable energy fair was a lot of fun and the Tredia got a LOT of attention. It was people people people for 6 solid hours!

There's also a few minutes of sped-up footage showing me running errands on a wet autumn morning. Any excuse to drive the car really!

So everyone, have you started your own conversions yet? :)

In the next video I plan on hauling out the motor to check the coupler. More details are on my website KiwiEV.com

P.S. Did anyone else get the urge to play Grand Theft Auto after watching the sped-up driving footage?

ANOTHER UPDATE!!
I'm selling DVDs of the whole project for $15 USD at my website www.KiwiEV.com (That includes Airmail postage too!)
The quality's much better than on Youtube and it comes with an unreleased Bonus Video!

  • what sound track is here? XD please tell me:D

  • Sorry about the delay! The song is called Copacabasa by the Barrio Jazz Gang.

  • Hello Gav. I've been following your project here from Denmark throughout several months. I have a few questions for you. Maybe you could enlighten them in your next episode?

    1) Price of electricity:

Simple measurement: How long time is your charger turned on? How many amps and what voltage are you using down under? What is your price on electricity pr. kwh? = recharging price?

  • I'll throw in some quick answers for you mate:

Charger uses 2800W for 45 mins, then about 500W for 2 hours, then switches off. Power here is 22c kW/h. I'm guessing that's around $1.50 per charge?

Haha, there are NO flat 100km/h areas in New Plymouth! It seems to use 1 amp per km/h though: 50km/h is exactly 50A on a flat road - if you can find one!

I already have basic plans in my head for KiwiEV2 - lithium batts and regen brakes are on the menu. Still, it will all depend on money. :)

    Cheers!

  • Hekma: The car has about 2 years before it rusts itself apart so I'm not too worried about modifications at the moment.

Keetorca: This model of charger shuts off completely once charged.

DeLorean4: Sounds familiar! Our gas is over $5.50 US per gallon here! It's a good time to own an EV.

Our "Unspent Gas Money" jar is up to $480 already. Anyone got any ideas what we should do with it?

  • @pbmartin14 good luck !!

  • how is the car being steered, did you install a pump, or just completely manual steering? thanks and great conversion im planning on starting one soon too!

  • Usually. Sometimes the rain might pick up things in the air. Especially if it hasn't rained in a long while.

  • rain water is perfect distilled water

  • @dquad

but I think a computer PSU doesn't know when to stop.

  • If you want to sell KiwiEV1 let me know. I'm a NZer too.

  • Does this work?

  • You could use a computer PSU as a charger:

    12V

    18A

    ------

    216Watts

And a PSU only costs like $40 on trademe.

  • How much power did you had left after this trip, and how many Km were made on it?

  • It has a heater. I made a 1960 Volkswagon Van aka the Hippie Van a EV but it waste a lot of hydro on hills gonig down though it sorta ummm give you a super boost. Me and my pals are also worknig on making a 1970 Super Bee a EV
