  • never or very rarely

  • i was referring to Wushu as the competition sport, and the basis of government owned and initiated shaolin which is a money-spinning tourist attraction. im not claiming i myself am one of the best and ignorance means not knowing. if you spent over two years in China at various schools, such as jet li's school in beijing, & like me were privileged to train with many world champions (which by definition would automatically be some of the best in the world) then i would value your opinion...

  • no he's good just not one of the best in the world, the world is such a large place and to say he is one of the best is very ignorant

  • not really a case of ignorance, considering the time i spent in china visiting all the best wushu schools and training alongside many world champions... and generally all the best practitioners are in china...

  • @Heihuchuan

his stances are high and his movements lack... some fierceness to it. and being spear, he didn't really show much flexibility.

he seems to practice wushu on more of a recreational level than competitive.

  • yeah this was his 3rd day holding a spear he's a dao/gun freestyle wushu player. i think a lot of modern wushu peeps have these flaws cause they specialise so narrowly. eg. he can xuefengjiao 1080 and butterfly 720 with ease and his broadswords is amazing but here it doesnt show any of that its true

  • @vashcat also I am not sure what you mean by "style over substance"? Anyway, this form does have La Na Zha. The fact that a form must contain those to be valid doesn't mean that's all it can contain..lol...would look really weird otherwise and know so few movements wouldn't be very practical on a battlefield ^^

  • @vashcat Now you re saying that modern wushu is "the shadow" of traditionnal wushu, with, as far as I understand, a negative meaning. But here I do not agree. I would say it evolved in a different way. Anyway, traditionnal wushu's main purpose in china was "fighting". It evolved for thousands of years, always in an effort to improve fighting efficiency. If "masters" from the past could come back and live now, they would probably swap their swords and spears for guns and tasers...

  • @vashcat First, thanks for not being an asshole! I was pretty sure I would get a long, dirty and degrading description of the relationship between my mother and I, as that's usually what one gets when he dares disagreeing with someone else on youtube.^^ Anyway, you seem quite interested and serious about chinese martial art and everything that concerns it. I do know about the events of the cultural revolution and know about how modern wushu was born. I do get your point and I totally agree!

  • @grorobert69 Besides a spear form is not valid unless you have the essence of deflect, seize and thrust. It is the absolute foundation of spear combat. In my personal opinion Whu Su while very pretty and impressive on TV or in person. Is not a real martial art because it focuses on style over substance.

  • @grorobert69 Dear Sir or Madam, I do not know if you are aware of Chinese history but all martial arts were banned save for Tai Chi for almost fifty years. The Shao-Lin monks were hunted down and murdered in mass. What now passes for Wu Shu is not the traditional art but rather a shadow of the past. Can you imagine if all knowledge of a 1500 art was wiped out and is masters had either fled China or were long dead. My Grandmaster studied under a true Shao-Lin monk who fled China.

  • @vashcat lol what an ignorant comment about gong fu and wushu...And even if I understand what you mean, I can assure you that this form is not "modern" wushu but traditionnal The way he moves and holds the spear.is too unusual to be modern wushu...

By the way, he does the la-na-Zha at the beginning not perfectly but quite correctly...the rest of the form is just not supposed to have la-na-zha

  • Once again Wushu is not Kung Fu what a dull form. As usual no La Na Cha.

  • Well done, you have paid attention and worked hard, the details are crisp. You are practiced in the manner of the form that will allow to unlock its secrets. I am impressed. Did you learn this entirely at Yantai?
