Metallica- To Live Is To Die (Cliff Burton Tribute)

September 26, 1986- The guys in Metallica set up sleeping arrangements for the night. Kirk and Cliff argue over the most comfortable bunk in the bus. (Their tour bus was like a school bus). They draw standard playing cards to see who wins the bunk for the night. Kirk and Cliff then pick cards. Cliff draws an ace of spades winning the bunk.

September 27, 1986- Cliff falls asleep. After a few minutes Lars just falls asleep and heres a screeching noise. The bus begins to flip. Kirk Hammett describes it as if they were rolling out of a cliff. Cliff falls out of an open window. The bus then lands on him. Everyone (except Cliff) gets out of the bus. James, Kirk, and Lars start screaming. After a short while they notice something. "Where's Cliff?" they ask themselves. They can only see Cliff's feet from under the bus. James grabs a flashlight and searches up and down the road for black ice after the bus driver claims to hit some. James screams at the bus driver, "Where's this black ice your talking about? I don't see any black ice." Later that morning they attempt to lift the bus off of Cliff. A cable snaps and the bus lands on top of Cliff again smashing his head. People believe that Cliff could have survived the accident, but they never know for sure.

It is said the song To Live Is To Die is a poem that Cliff wrote before he died. Cliff's sister gave the poem to Kirk, James, Lars. Cliff Burton believed that the Kingdom of Salvation is like Heaven where he would go in his afterlife.
