So I spent the weekend with my Super Nintendo and decided that it was a good opportunity to record some vintage games from the era and share the love, since it seems to me that not many people know of some of the games that I was somehow fortunate enough to "invest" in as a kid.

Honestly, I don't think there are all that many games that I own that I can say I don't enjoy playing at all...so it was a tough choice to spend my time wisely!

Of course, I decided to start with Panel de Pon's English equivalent, Tetris Attack. I think considering what they did with it, the production values remain quite high and the presentation on the whole is pretty seamless. It's certainly not lacking in spirit or character compared to its fairy-based counterpart.

This is the game that started it all, though...the one that led me down this long and confusing path of Panel de Ponnery...and for that I am grateful. I originally bought this game because of an article I read in Nintendo Power...and it's been a while since I read one that so strongly influenced me. Of course, it was pretty bare-bones and beginner-oriented in its coverage, but that's just as well, because if it had been any more advanced, I might not have decided to give it a try.

I believe that Tetris Attack actually proved to be somewhat more advanced than its Japanese counterpart in a couple of ways, so they ported it back over to the Super Famicom as "Yoshi no Panepon," which is pretty neat, if true.

Anyhow, I'm uploading this first, because it's what I did first and as such has the power-on and title screens intact.

I couldn't remember exactly how to jump straight into Very Hard, because you need a code for that, and apparently my best guess was wrong...but playing on Hard will get you the whole story anyway, so I figured it was a fair enough subsitute.

I feel like a brute again, because I sorta just strong-arm my way through the game after all this "practice" I've been getting in on Nintendo Puzzle collection, but there's really no helping that, is there?

  • Those baby Yoshis suuure are excited, aren't they?

On a side note, seems kind of odd that they didn't, like, at least put Yoshi's name in the title. The box art doesn't even show him!

Jeez you work so fast at this, it's really neat to look at.
