Hertz corporation ordered 1,001 of the G.T. 350s to offer as rentals. The side stripes read "G.T. 350H", but the cars became know as "Rent-a-Racers." Some cunning Mustang owners would rent the Shelbys, swap the motor with the motor in their Mustangs, and return them to Hertz. At $17 per day and 17 cents per mile, it was a good bargain for a Shelby engine. It was "uncool" to own a former rental car, so many of the cars were debadged after they were decommissioned. Thanks to the Shelby American Automobile Association, however, many of these cars have been found. More than 800 were made in black, and the other 200 or so were divided between red, green, blue, and white. Only the black models and a few white ones had stripes on the hood, but many owners added them to the other cars during restoration.

  • Such the Cool car....and no-one even leaving comments about it! Whats wrong with you people? Love the way it sounds!

  • glad to see you got that bad Hertz car back on the net. Id die to own one. A person used to, even in the 90's, be able to afford one, but not now. They are most over $100,000 and up to a smooth quarter Million bucks in Hemmings anyways. Guess ill have to settle for my '66 Coupe. But i do have 2 die cast metal '66 GT350 Shelbys...from the Franklin Mint. They both are in covered model display boxs too! Got a black one and a red one. Just wish they were real! Guess i can dream tho huh? Keep It!

  • I saw one drive by me in a small town I lived in as a kid once. Me and my buddy were riding our bikes. It was the loudest car I've ever heard (and my neighbor had a stock car he used to race all the time). We heard this thing long before we could see it and we stopped like what the hell is that!? once we saw it we just stared at it. I guess he saw us because he just stomped on the gas when he drove by. It was like being at a metal show, you could feel it in your chest haha. Awesome car man!

  • @aralez2 Haha I didn't even notice until I read your comment.

  • thats wut u call a Bad ass car!!!! Give me a thumbs up if u agree'

  • Can power steering be installed on it ?

  • 0:17 It sounds like Meshuggah - Bleed

  • Old man had a Hertz franchise when I was 13. Whenever someone would check in a Shelby he'd disconnect the speedo and take it home for the weekend. Great memories of that car. One of his mechanics "Red" got nailed for taking one to Englishtown track and racing it.

  • Cool car, but I don't like the lumpy cam and the Flowmasters; it sounds like a Camaro

  • What size wheels are those?

They look a little wider than stock.

  • Dear panamajack05 from San Antonio -

Car has been raced and is a classic.
