The Texas Doc made a good point about the media glorifying teenage pregnancy. I'm surprised he didn't touch on that a little more in this episode, but remember kids, life does not imitate art.

  • This is idiotic. Not all teen moms are failing. I gave birth to my son at 17, graduated from High School, Worked Full Time and lived on my own. I get no child support, no welfare. I have done this all on my own with no help from anyone. I have finished college and have better job than most my friends that don't have kids. It is only the people who choose to fail in this situation that do fail. If you want to succeed than you can. No one has any right no look down on teen moms.

  • @triceey07 Its just my opinion. Im 18 years old finished high school, Oh yeah And I am a Blk African American Female, in College to be Architecture and no kids with my own place and car. Yet that doent mean the I am ready for a kid(s) thats why I deal with my nephew and send him back to his dad ( brother) .. I wont be having any kids not until my 30's and I tell my mom that all the time. Because I have been raised by a TEEN MOM . Who never left her kids and still have her kids tell this day.

  • i feel real bad for the unborn baby. that girl is dumb. point blank. sorry its the truth. she can keep this baby and not only screw her life but the babys to along with her moms marriage. how selfish is the this girl.???

  • Dr. Phil is just SO negative! Perhaps, if he stopped attacking her and spoke more reasonably with her about the ideas and whatnot, she'd be more willing to accept other options and input. She may be 16, but in the end, it's her body and her baby. She's the only one that can say yes to adoption or yes to parenting. It happened, so now it's about dealing with it in a logical manner.

What you don't appear to see, is that whether you intended to encourage it or not, your comments certainly come across as permissive of it. That's a problem.

Teens have always had sex unprotected and gotten pregnant. The problem now is that our society has changed and kids are not responsible like they were in the 1800's when getting married and having kids at 13 was commonplace. Kids today do not develop the maturity necessary to be parents as quickly. Most teen parents DO fail!

  • @STR1CERA Exactly, 16 is the age of consent, atleast where I live. My sons dad was 20 and I was 16. There was nothing my parents could do because as of the age of 16 they could no longer claim victim on my behalf. I would have to say that I said no. It is not illegal in all states to consent to sex before the age of 18. You know how many people would be sitting in jail for have sex with a girlfriend or boyfriend if that was the case.

  • @AllPro777 I am not encouraging anything, but everyone is assuming she will fail without giving this girl a chance. If I took into consideration all the people that said I would fail yeah I probably would have, but I knew I wouldn't. I am not saying that teens should go out and get pregant either. I am saying things happen. Reality is that teens these days have sex usually unprotected. There is no stopping it. Maybe if people would give these girls a chance they could accomplish great things.

  • He's talking about teen moms and relating it back to Teen Mom. Does he watch the show? All of those girls that chose to keep the baby (except for Jenelle) are raising the babies, without much help from their parents. I think only one of them is still living at home and relying on their parents. Dr. Phil basically called this girl on the show to criticize.

  • @uky1985 I realize that, so do many teen parents. Working in social services I saw many more cases of "adults" not wanting to give up their lives than teens.
