Actually mate it's 'Oud' and that's not what 's being played here, Leonard's usual Oud/mandolin player is John Bilezikjian. look up Oud and you'll see the difference.

Anybody know the name of the laud player?
(that was the very percussive paired-string Latin-soundiung instrument that took the solo halfway through the song). It really added another layer to the piece, connecting it both to the Spanish Civil War and also possibly Central America in the Eighties.
