@DefyGravity464 I just read a review of the 50th anniv blu-ray and was horrified to hear they inserted a bogus fade-out right at the end of the overture, when Saul Bass' gorgeous graphics dissolve into the real-life skyline. I also read they've taken such heat already that they're gonna re-issue it. Can anyone verify this???

first time hearing the whistle in the beginning i thought it was someone screaming bloody murder....i was horrified.

I probably love this magnificent opening more than any other scene in the movie--the music is so vibrant, exciting, moving--and the natural sound overhead shots of Manhattan are exquisite. I never get tired of watching it. And btw, George Chakiris' dancing was elegant and graceful--and he was quite good looking.
