Under the Bridge is a song released by alternative rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers on March 10, 1992. The song appeared on the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

The song was written by vocalist Anthony Kiedis, to express a feeling of loneliness and sadness, related to his previous drug use and the effect it had had on his life. Kiedis said in an interview with Rolling Stone that the bridge referred to in the song was a dangerous location on drug ring turf, and Kiedis felt despondent at the memories of his time spent "under the bridge" - buying and using drugs, and doing very little. On a day in August 1988, Kiedis wrote the song reflecting on this past era.

The song expresses both melancholy and hope. Kiedis talked about feeling lost at the time of writing, due to unpleasant memories, disconnections in his life, and the loss the band's original guitarist and close friend, Hillel Slovak, to heroin. However, the song's lyrics such as "the city, she loves me", show the element of comfort in the song. Kiedis said that he felt a connection with his home city of Los Angeles. He felt some positivity in that the events that had occurred "under the bridge" were in the past, and in knowing that in the future he didn't "ever wanna feel" like he "did that day".
