Extracted from the third DVD of the French "prestige" DVD edition of the movie March of the Penguins.

― Here is how we forget we are filming birds; when we see them to have so tender movements, so sweet; we have the feeling to have found companions in Antarctica, to have found... touching characters. There, they are... they are 1.15 m (3.75 ft) tall, weigh 40 kg (90 lbs), and we forget they are birds ; we see, smalls... a small people growing on ice fields, in the middle of cold, having sweet movements, tender movements, in a place where nothing predispose life, where nothing prognosticates so much sweetness, so much tenderness and quietude... I believe that, when we filmed these sequences, we felt as much emotion, I think, as if we filmed, perhaps an activity in a human community, or something like that. It's very hard to explain.

*Mating*

― So there, it looks like I'm not wearing any glove, actually it is very very cold, the gloves were avoiding me to easily manipulate the lens, I was compelled to regularly remove them to shot the pictures. So, indeed it glues a little bit to the hands, but we get over very well of it; you can't stay like this very very longly, but yet, the temperatures, -15 °C (-27 °F)
― When there was no wind.
― When there was no wind effectively, because wind, actually, makes these temperatures cooler...

*End of mating*

― I think Laurent is a bad witness of cold, because in fact, his fingers are never cold, here are the surprising experiences of human resistance... there. Mister's fingers were never cold, mine were.
― Truly that we are unequal to this kind of situation. What matters is to have the right kit.
― Here is the kind of situation that ties everybody: blizzard roaming Antarctica, reaching 200 km/h (125 mph), and that makes temperature freezing from -20 °C (-36 °F) to -60 °C (-108 °F) in quarter a hour, and sends everybody back to the station, while penguins remain courageously on the ice fields. [...]

__________

• I LOVE PENGUINS :)

  • A full grown Emperor Penguin grows up at around 4' but the males are slightly larger than the females.

  • how tall is a grown emperor penguin?

  • @crystal0angel nope they fuck to

  • @Redheart1999 That's the reason I put this video online. ;) It has a strong educational value, as it shows the cloaca of a male Emperor Penguin during mating, which is unique.
