  • I notice a distinct lack of interest in certain old things in Japan. My Japanese wife doesn't want me to bring old Japanese swords into the house. Of course there are dedicated sword collectors here in Japan, but many average persons see them as just old weapons that may have killed someone & most people have no interest, or don't have a feeling for their cultural value. These items seem to have more esteem in the eyes foreigners than to Japanese. I'm sure some will disagree with me.

  • @liverpoollondon G'day. Yes I'd get the impression the japanese dont like to talk anything about WW2, but still it would be great to have at least one Betty into fully air worthy example again. Yes you're right, there is hardly any flying WW2 planes in Japan but I'd recall an 'Frank' army fighter once flew during early 70s but because of poor condition it was finally grounded for good. A real shame.....

  • @dj17q

We should not expect Japanese to restore this fine example of technologically significant achievement of Japanese engineers. One of the reasons is that Japanese became 'ashamed' in a wholesale fashion of anything they did before the defeat. This includes, sadly, even pure enginering achievements. I remember a rare airworthy fighter was brought to Japan from California and now allowed to be decayed due to a lack of funding and interest.

  • For dj17q

We should not expect even this historically (and technologically) significant example to be restored. Japanese became so 'ashamed' in a wholesale fashion about whatever they did before the defeat (including technologically significant achievements like Betty, not associated with militarism). I remember that a rare air-worthy fighter was brought to Japan from California and it is now left to decay.

  • Can someone please tell me in details if they are rebuilding this fine example of G4M Betty Bomber into full airworthy craft? I think it would be fantastic to have a fully flying japanese bomber as we just dont have 'em that many today. I have big admiration for the lovely Bettys.....
