Outcast is a showing of how much cheaper Blinn's original grayscale technique was to the current Normal Mapping. CPUs of the day can run it almost free of charge. The FPS has no dramatic dip when used on all these characters.
Sytem requirements weren't that high either. Its a wonder why they didn't use it more on non-microsoft consoles of the 6th generation. Tis a shame in the art department. : (

Great video, nice to see rarities like this.

Wow, Outcast still impresses people even years after the release. Amazing. In 1999 I liked it because of the special looking graphics too. And the music - of coruse. I listen to it even nowadays. Remembering the emotions aroused by this brilliant game. *sniff* :'-|

The graphic is very good for 1999 and especialy for 1997

NexXxus86: "wtf is that thing on cutter's face?"
I'm not entirely sure, but it appears to me that Cutter has attempted to disguise himself as a Talan. I thought maybe the helmet/headdress was meant to imitate the craniofacial structure of a Talan's skull. Couldn't tell you why, though.
Another beta game mystery, I suppose, haha.
This beta looks beautiful, by the way. And I just have to say that Outcast is one of the most fantastic games ever made. Open Outcast looks interesting...

this means the game could have been co-op!!!.....give me the beta and put me to the test to crack it cus 2 player's in a single player game rocks like no other multiplayer out there!!!
-
hey! it looks like they did create several multiplayers maps !

I love to see early betas and absolutely love this game! Cutter´s helmet looks funny xD The strange shape could be assumed to fit for a Talan, but they don´t have such high-tech-stuff. But I realy like the Cloth, they look more Talan-Made (and especialy more Shamazar-fit) then the Ulukai-Shirt he wears in the final Game.

Do you have to convince them? It is BEAUTIFUL.

Yay! I love primitive betas from primitive games
There's no need to convince anyone... this *IS* an incredible game. Period!

This was the best game ever!
I played through it first time 3-4 months ago (october 2007).
Bad resolution apart, there is no game like this! Well maybe one, Anachronox comes close!
But I loved the voxel landscape in this, to name one thing.
