There is quite some confusion of the mounting of my V1 radar detector, and radar detectors in general so this is my first video of a series where I am going to explain the details of radar detectors both the obvious and the ones that aren't.

Yes I know it's not an AC but DC adapter...Being in exam time my mind isn't working perfectly

  • Radar Roy suggests as low as possible, without being obstructed by the windshield wipers. Is there a reason in particular you mount your detectors up high?

Many RD can detect Laser, but because the beam is so narrow, you would have to get it as close as possible to your headlights or license plate so you can hopefully get some splash from the laser. Thoughts?

  • @RavenDT1984 I worked for Radar Roy and this is where I disagreed.

Radar is a radio wave so the higher the antenna mean better reception

As for laser detecting it is useless cause once you detect it the cop already has your speed. So the only way to combat laser is a laser jammer if legal in your state. Additionally the V1 is the most sensitive laser detector on the market so high or low it will alert to being shot. even (if mounted high) the car in front was shot

  • is that legal?

  • @Chronoh524 As long as you are in a non-commercial vehicle and you aren't in Virginia or Washington DC they are legal to own and operate in your car.

  • Could you hardwire it and put it under your hood? Then have the external display up under your dash? Sorry if its been answered im too lazy to look lol.

  • @QuadraplegicNinja Yes you could but you would need to the V1 unit is a waterproof box

Also my mounting it like that you are destroying its performance

Best bet for a cheap hidden install would be a cheap visor pouch and cut it for the V1

  • @robm425 Thanks for that. Makes sense. :) I just recently purchased an Escort Redline and I am faced with the dilemma of how I am going to mount it in my vehicle. Since the suction cup has trouble sticking to the windshield and there is no way for me to mount it to the dash, I was wondering if mounting it to my visor somehow would still be an acceptable mounting spot.

So thanks for the insight. I appreciate it.

  • Great advice... Mount high and level. Mike Valentine has his mounted in top left corner n his Mercedes SUV.

Drives me crazy to c radar detectors pointing

towards the sky or towards the hoods. (mostly dumb@ss cobra owners)

  • is there any way to mount the detector away from the windshield and to keep it tucked away out of sight?

  • The problem here is that radar is passe. Most municipalities have gone to laser which is, as a practical matter, undetectable until the cop lights you up.
