There may not be a whole lot new to say about the Occupy movement that hasn't already been said. So instead of saying it, we decided to sing it. This song is about the long list of ways the Occupiers believe the government and corporate America have failed them. The musical genres alternate between folk and rap, since both styles seem appropriate. FOLK:
We are the 99 percent.
My friends don't understand me,
When they hear my loud dissent.
Well, the 1 percent above
Stole the country that I love
So I'm occupying Portland in my tent.

RAP:
Revolution.
Fix the system.
Revolution, not reform.
Occupy the nation.
Be the change you wish to see.
Stop war on working people.
Fight the corporate machine.
The revolution's here.
Unite and conquer.
It's begun.
Peace is patriotic.
End class warfare.
Disobey.

FOLK:
We are the 99 percent.
My job went east, my life went south,
Now I cannot pay the rent.
I will not lie and cheat.
I'll leave that to Wall Street.
Now I'm occupying Portland in my tent.

RAP:
Stop the ruling 1 percent.
No bailouts.
End the Fed.
Move your money.
Prosecute.
To hell with Wall Street greed.
People over profits.
Tax the rich.
Stop greed.
Enough!
Greed rules a foolish nation.
Soon the poor will eat the rich.

FOLK:
We are the 99 percent.
Against my crushing debt, I cannot make a dent.
No use to sit and stew,
'Cause the bank's in trouble, too.
So I'm occupying Portland in my tent.

RAP:
Get money out of politics.
Two parties but no voice.
I will not buy that corporations are the same as people
'til Texas tries, convicts, condemns, then ups and executes one.
Jobs, not cuts, and jobs with justice
Jobless masses all unite.
Good jobs now.
Make jobs, not war.
Collective bargaining's a right.

FOLK:
We are the 99 percent.
I watch big corporations occupy my government.
Now my kitchen cupboard's bare
As a nudist billionaire.
So I'm occupying Portland in my tent.

RAP:
Books, not bombs.
Fund schools.
End war.
Bring all the troops home now.
Terror comes from endless war.
Demand accountability.
Health care is a right for all
Build homes, not banks.
Build hope.
I'm so mad I made a sign.
Leave Britney Spears alone.

FOLK:
We are the 99 percent.
I'm taking back my country, for that I won't repent.
Though the ground is wet and cold,
And the pepper spray gets old,
I really, truly meant,
To just come out to scream and vent,
About my lost retirement,
And question where the money went,
While occupying Portland in my tent.
