Hey folks, I was the French Horn player and now I feel really bad. Ha! Just kidding! But seriously, easy on the criticism. This was a great performance all around and was obviously videoed and recorded in a not-quite-professional manner. Mic position (s) and post mixing would make a huge difference of course. The camera is probably very close to the brass section. Let's enjoy the performance for what it is! Let's appreciate the huge effort of all the performers -including Mr French Horn.

that french horn sticks out like a sore thumb - great performance otherwise :)

@wrmp that's a shame, I wish I had been there it sounds wonderful otherwise.
For anyone else who was wondering, the horn is in Mozart's rendition of Messiah, but aparently it was changed so much by Handel there isn't really an 'original' version anyways (from wikipeddia but sounds reasonable).

Excellent performance by the choir ,but sounds like one of the instruments (i think one of the wind instruments) was slightly flat.

Would be a much better performance if that horn stopped playing!

I'm a soprano as well... Loved performing this song... just gave me a chance to open up to hit those notes!
Great show and well done, but I don't think the French horn really works with this piece. Let's assume that Handel knew what he was doing and leave it off this one, it would go well with some other Christmas classics likely. This is assuming that the french horn is the really loud piercing one that occasionally distracts from the singers. Perhaps another option would be to use a mute on it?

@CaptainKiddMate We've actually scratched our heads a bit on this since the horn was prominent but passable during the actual performance. We're thinking that a combination of camera mic's and an unfortunate resonance factor in the church came into play. Next time, if it comes to pass, we'll use separate room mics as well.
