@hatie3 And no one is saying you're not beautiful, but it's a mainly European standard of beauty that has been shoved down the world's throat, and now many Africans (not just Ghanaians) are falling victim to it: bleaching their skin--burning it, in fact--straightening their hair with dangerous chemicals. And since when were Europeans right about anything? You're gorgeous, sister, but to simple ways of thinking that makes our equally gorgeous dark-skinned mothers and sisters ugly.
@ameyaw I didn't say she's not a pretty girl. She is. I merely stated that the standard of beauty has changed... and not for the better. If she's the example of "beauty," then what of the women who are completely opposite her? For 4 centuries the European has been telling the world that African women they are ugly. Now it's the Africans themselves who perpetuate the lie.
@slylocke i think like the say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...at the end of the day there is nothing like Western Beauty or Ghanaian beauty..what you find beautiful i may not find beautiful...as to the case of whether she is ghanaian or not i will leave you guys o decide...who or what makes a Ghanaian?
@hatie3 I didn't say she wasn't Ghanaian, nor did I call her shit. I was saying that the Ghanaian standard of beauty is screwed up. It's the European standard of beauty now--lighter skin, straight hair (whether naturally straight, wigged, or weaved), and that's the reason she was chosen. You can't tell me that the majority of Ghanaian women look like her. Ghanaians consider their own beautiful women ugly, like Africans in Western nations do.
its a shame that Ghana didn't pick a "Miss Universe Ghana" that most Ghanaian girls could identify with. Their choice highlighted European physical characteristics. i wonder if the Ghanaians feel no shame with having made that choice.
