علی کریمی

محمد علی کریمی پاشاکی (زادهٔ ۱۷ آبان ۱۳۵۷ در کرج) فوتبالیست مشهور ایرانی است. او هم‌اکنون عضو باشگاه پرسپولیس تهران است. کریمی پیش از این در باشگاه‌های فتح تهران، پرسپولیس تهران، الاهلی امارات، بایرن مونیخ آلمان و السیلیه قطر نیز بازی کرده است.
او نخستین بار در سال ۱۹۹۸ در بازی مقابل کویت در بازیهای آسیایی بانکوک با پیراهن تیم ملی به زمین آمد. کریمی در ابتدای بازیهای دور سوم انتخابی جام جهانی ۲۰۱۰ نیز کاپیتان ایران بود که بعد از تیم ملی کنار ماند. بنابر اعلام ابوالفضل جلالی مدیر برنامه‌های علی کریمی مبلغ قرارداد این بازیکن در طول دو سال بازی در قطر ۴ میلیون و ۷۰۰ هزار یورو بود. کریمی با قراردادی به ارزش 300 میلیون تومان بار دیگر به پرسپولیس تهران پیوست تا به عنوان ارزان‌ترین ستاره فوتبال ایران در لیگ برتر مشغول به بازی شود. کریمی عضو تیم ملی فوتبال ایران است و در تیم‌های بزرگی نظیر بایرن مونیخ آلمان بازی کرده است. وی همیشه پیراهن شماره ۸ را به تن می‌کنداو در سال ۲۰۰۴ بازیکن سال آسیا شد.Iran players remain in the hunt for a spot at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa as a second-half wonder strike by Ali Karimi earned them a 1-0 defeat of United Arab Emirates in Tehran on Wednesday.
Needing a win to keep alive any realistic hope of qualifying for its third FIFA World Cup in four attempts, Afshin Qotbis team was continually frustrated by their visitors defense and goalkeeper Majed Naser, FIFA reported.
But Karimi eased the concerns of the home fans at the Azadi Stadium with a classy winning goal in the 53rd minute of the game. It was only the second win in Group B for the Iranians, which elevated them to ten points, one behind both North Korea and Saudi Arabia, who will meet next Wednesday in Riyadh.
Iran can ensure at least a play-off spot with victory at the already-qualified South Korea in its final Group B game. An away win and a draw in Riyadh would even see them finish second, giving them an automatic berth in South Africa.
Entering the match with only one win in six group games, Iran immediately set to make things right, threatening in the opening minute when Vahid Hashemian chested down Karimis cross in the box but fired his effort straight at goalkeeper Majed Naser. In the tenth minute, Hashemian rose to meet Pejman Nouris cross from the left but sent his header wide.
The UAE rarely threatened in the opening half but on one of their rare attacks, Nawaf Mubarak nearly opened the scoring with a free-kick which was deflected wide. Javad Nekounam saw his header stopped by Naser, while Masoud Shojaeis shot deflected off a defender and flew over the crossbar.
Half-time substitute Mohammad Khalatbari almost broke the deadlock early in the second half when his header off a Nouri cross was superbly stopped by Naser.
The home sides frustrations were finally ended eight minutes after the interval by a fine individual effort by Karimi. Receiving a pass from Andranik Teymourian in the midfield, the Persepolis midfielder displayed great control and composure to take the ball into the box, holding off a couple of challenges before slotting the ball home.
The UAE threatened on the hour when Abdulsalam Jummas shot from 20 meters was easily stopped by goalkeeper Mehdi Rahmati. But it was the Iranians who had the better of the opportunities as the clock ticked down.
Arash Borhani failed to get enough purchase on an effort which was cleared off the line by Obaid Khaleifa, and with six minute remaining, Hossein Kabi made a brilliant run in from the right flank before firing a low shot that rolled narrowly past the upright.
Iran has now beaten UAE 10 times in 14 matches with three games drawn.
According to AFP, Iran remains in fourth place in Asian qualifying Group B with 10 points from seven matches, one behind North Korea and Saudi Arabia.
Table-topping South Korea, with 15 points, has already made sure of its place in the finals in South Africa next year.
The second automatic qualifying spot will be decided next Wednesday when Iran travels to South Korea while the Saudis welcome North Korea to Riyadh.
