The media reflect and reinforce this image of the dangerous African American male. Winbush says this image can be seen in such early Hollywood productions as Birth of a Nation, "which President Woodrow Wilson declared to be the greatest movie he had ever seen, to the 1988 political contest between Mr. Bush and Governor Dukakis over the parole of Willie Horton. This is something that all black males in our society see at some level. Unfortunately, many black males react to this, feeling that if they are deprived of some of the things others have, they can take what they want."
Winbush believes these media images have an early impact upon young African American males and help to fuel their desire to emulate those projections. "If I go through the black communities of Nashville, I would probably see more liquor advertisements, more cigarette advertisements, than I would in certain white communities. In fact, the Rev. Calvin Butts, in New York, has taken the extreme measure of 'white washing' such billboards in the black community. ..."
"At a very young age we see the reinforcement of taking drugs in our society, particularly among young black males. I think Joe Camel is a black male image. He is recognized by children as being more popular than Mickey Mouse. Here we have the image that smoking cigarettes is OK, reinforced in the minds of children by a camel," says the psychologist.

In the 80's when some young blacks turned to gangs, guns & drugs & terrorized their communities, it seemed 2 confirm whites worst fears. The explosion of gangster rap & the spate of Hollywood violence-themed ghetto films have convinced even more Americans that the thug lifestyle is the black lifestyle. They have ghastly visions of the boys-in-the-hoods heading for their neighborhoods. No matter whether a young black is a scholar, National Science winner, they could be tagged as a gangster.

But i dont think that every black person is that i think it just depends on how a person is raised. So we can not base every child on how they are colored and because one day black people were slaves. Black africans have the highest world population numbers the world has ever seen, they also have the worlds largest piece of farmland the world has ever seen, Africa. Yet whites are a 10 percent minority of the ENTIRE PLANET and africans live with whites as a minority. There is nothing more you can do for these people.

I did not realize how old this video was -- until the psychologist mentioned that the year 2000 is about "seven years from now".

But the situation has not changed -- I think that maybe because a large majority of humans have as a sponsoring thought & belief that young black males are "thugs" and "gangsters" and "criminals".
