If I recall correctly, the great character actor Vito Scotti was in this episode.

@jtg3765 I think Carsini was ready to confess at this point. His secretary was his only alibi, and the idea that she would have that power over him for the rest of his life was terrifying, even more so than going to prison. Carsini was well aware that Columbo knew that he committed the murder, at first he tried to tough it out, but by this point he had been totally worn down by Columbo's pestering, and the spoilt port was the final straw. Similar type of ending to "Swan Song".

@jtg3765 It's because he immediately went to destroy the ruined wine. If the air conditioning malfunctioned, or he forgot, he wouldn't have known at that moment that his wines were ruined. He would've had to have known the air conditioning was off that day, which he did since he turned it off and back on once he arrived back home.

The GREAT Donald Pleasance. Fame of Micheal Myers Doctor. Great episode.

Columbo was a great guy.. He knew the guy wasn`t a cold blooded killer and he felt sorry for him and wanted to make his arrest as painless as possible

The fact the wine was bad and the wine maker didn't bother to check it until AFTER Columbo mentioned that hot day makes him look guilty. Does anybody really think the wine maker would simply forget to turn on the air conditioner? That would be like a mother forgetting to put her 2 year old to bed. And, also the fact the wine went bad on the same day that his brother happened to visit and disappear. Why did the winemaker wait to check the wine until after Columbo mentioned that hot day?

"The Marino Brothers?!! The Marino Brothers?!!! They don't make wine, they make mouth wash!"

does anyone know the legend of the montefiascone wine?
I love this Columbo episode, but I am always unclear why the case was solved. It proves nothing that Cassini was disposing of wine bottles that got ruined. Maybe he forgot to turn on the air conditioning when he left for his trip, or maybe the air conditioning malfunctioned while he was away during a sudden heat wave. How is it that Columbo can prove that Cassini killed his brother just because his wines got spoiled. The two aren't necessarily connected - it really proves nothing. What gives?

@jtg3765 I also don't think this episode is explained enough to the audience. I tried my best to some up the events in the description box. As usual Columbo only has suspects that Carsni killed his brother by some clues he picks up along with way. He asks Carsni to confess at the end now that he is emotionally vulnerable due to his pricelesswine being ruined by the heat. Hope this makes it a bit clearer jtg3765

@myvideoreviewer There is definitely one more clip from this episode that I want to upload. I'll get round to it eventually but its not exactly at the top of my things I want to upload at the moment.
