This answered a couple of questions that I had. Thanks for the tutorial!
The reason that the style isn't refreshing on demand is because of the database cache (like you said), and also your browser's cache. Hit refresh in your browser after clearing the db cache, and you will get the updated changes without having to think whether or not you saved it, uploaded, etc. or trying to figure out why it isn't refreshing.

it seems like when I copied my subsilver2 folder, the files still point to the subsilver2 directories.
So when I installed my new style it worked.. but nothing changed unless I changed it in subsilver2. I tried renaming the subsilver2 folder and it broke everything, so it was definitely pointing to that stuff. I clearly did something wrong, but I can't seem to figure out what.

I hate phpBB. After customizing IP Board and vBulletin, I will refuse to ever touch that piece of software again.
However, it's nice you are helping people to learn how to pimp out as much as possible with phpBB so people can get a pretty sexy look for their forums.
