Hi, my name is Hilary Unger from Perianth Interior Design in New York and today I am to talk to you about dining rooms. There are a couple of different styles that you can go for in your dining room. There would be traditional. It is the mahogany table, the traditional chairs, the chair rail molding painted below and the striped wall paper above, the silk curtains with the tieback and the trim and the crystal chandelier. This is an example of a modern dining room. The furniture is from the 60's. It is reproduction furniture. The area rug is solid color, it is not a pattern such as a Persian. There is a window seat here and the fabric are faux leather which is a modern invention and a modern fabric that is used, more of a techno fabric. And the throw pillows have a pattern to them but it is not a traditional pattern like a floral.

The window treatments are much less fussy than the other example I showed you. They are roman shades and this is a rice paper fabric. It give you texture on the windows but it is not fussy, it is very simple. There is lighting which has a little bit of a flare to it. It is not consistently keeping with the modern style of the rest of the dining room, but it gives an eclectic flare and that is also acceptable. This is an example of a transitional dining room. The wood is cherry of the dining table and the chairs and the legs of the chairs have a little bit of a flare. There is grass cloth wall covering, a silk lamp, a silk chandelier, wall sconces and a sea grass rug. And because of the muted colors also portiere curtains which is a traditional element but in this case it works toward transitional because transitional is neither very traditional nor very modern so this is right in the middle. There is texture, there is color, it is not too bright in either way and it is just a very comfortable room to have dinner in.
