One of the loveliest of our old Irish songs with delightfully archaic words! This is possibly due to direct translation from the Gaelic to English. Part of the chorus is in the Gaelic language.
This song is for Mary in Ontario from her daughter Wanda.
I hope you like it, Mary.
Sadly Mary passed away on 1 September. As we say in the Gaelic language : Go raibh leaba aici i measc na nAingeal.. (May she have a bed among the angels)
Terry.

My Mary of the curling hair,
The laughing teeth and bashful air.
Our bridal morn is dawning fair
With blushes in the skies.
Chorus : Siúl (shule), siúl, siúl a ghrá
Siúl go socair agus siúl go buan,
My love, my pearl, my own dear girl,
My mountain maid, arise.

For we were known from infancy,
Thy father's hearth was home to me,
No selfish love was mine for thee
Unholy and unwise.
Chorus : Siúl ........

But soon my love shall be my bride
And happy by our own fireside.
My veins shall feel the rosy tide
That lingering hope denies.
Chorus : Siúl ......

  • @grazamel Thank you so much Amelia. Much appreciated comment. Almost two years since I did this song! I stopped posting videos last year as I began to realise that I was way below the standard of all the great accordionists I could see on youtube. But I still play in music sessions and enjoy it greatly.

  • that is one beautiful accordion!

  • On behalf of the accordion I thank you!

Ah shucks it's the accordion that is beautiful - not the accordionist nor the music! LOL

Incidentally I have since changed accordions and am now using a Borsini.

    Greetings from Ireland.
