"Our boys were sent off to die with *beautiful ideals* painted in front of them. No one told them that *dollars and cents* were the real reason they were marching off to *kill and die*."
--Gen. Smedley Butler, 1934

In the earlier half of the 20th Century, when the U.S. invaded the Philippines, it proclaimed its duty as bringing "civilization" to the benighted peoples of the islands. There, Filipino rebels were waging an independence war against the Spaniards and were on the verge of winning their freedom. Lo and behold, the U.S. stepped in, and
proclaimed that they too were on the side of "freedom." Spain, reading the handwriting on the wall, rather quickly capitulated. Under the fog of "freedom", however, lay other motives, ones expressed openly by Indiana Senator Albert Beveridge, who
announced:

"The Philippines are *ours forever... and just beyond the Philippines are China's illimitable markets....* The Pacific is *our ocean.*" [Source: Howard Zinn, *A People's History of the United States* (1995), p. 306.]

  • why the fuck do we americans have to chooce between democrats and republicans??? why not have a political party that actually represent us and cares for atleast our basic needs and not capitalise them. free universal healthcare for all, that would be a real democracy!!!!

  • "We have bi-partisan politics "two parties working together as one.", both parties are guilty, and it's the people's responsibility to hold them to account. It's our fault things have gotten this bad". Real Talk

I forgot who said it.. but an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere.. and counting

  • yes both partys run the goverment no matter who wins the elections, Congress is built half in half, but no other parties are in it.. and they are equally guilty..

  • @WESTCOASTLATIN I'd love that also, but unfortunately you don't pay nothing and get something with any government. Taxes would rise or you'd pay for it yourself, that simple.

  • long live would wide revolution

  • American imperialism is simply an extension of the civilising paradigm of the British empire. A paradigm which is explicitly racist, ultra capitalist, and regressive in the sense that social interest is completely discounted. People in the global south are fully aware of the intentions of the USA and an unfortunate consequence is the support of anti colonial movements such as fundamentalist Islam, totalitarian socialism, and Nationalism.

  • WHAT is so GREAT about this ALMIGHTY DOLLAR that politicians, countries, my country, disregards LIFE for FINANCIAL GAIN? WHY do We THE PEOPLE allow this to continue? Aren't we getting just sick to death of all this MURDER for nothing but wealth? Haven't we had enough, LEARNED a lesson?.....the GOV is nothing but a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, WE will rout you out."

  • It isn't anyone's fault but those who knowingly do unjust things. Those aware of the injustice are few, and the ones unaware are in the veil of a false humanitarian nation woven with the silk of deception by the corporate powers that be.

  • no, the world would be better without corporate buisnesses and the central bank system.

  • sound like a stupid heard following fox news watching facist cows milk drinking bitch...keep saying what they want you to say you stupid bitch.
