george best is absolute quality. Shame he didn't play for portugal, brazil or argentina... they'd have crowned him the greatest... as it is, he will have to settle for being Best by name.

Just said that defenders nowadays have to stop the attacker in whatever way possible.
in that time they were going for the ball, nowadays the defender just has to stop the attacker, not the ball ;p.

They were probably as aggressive back then. You just don't see it as players didn't go to ground as easily as they do now. Look at Best, barely falling to ground. Also, less fouls were given back at Charlton, Best time. But there were still aggressive players, Gascoigne and so on

@ChaconChe Very true. Still it's just players like Rooney or Messi, since they are like goal-scoring kings pretty much the Manager's gonna make his Defenders be on them like white on rice. And since there are more "dirty" tackles than before it's very hard for these legends to score goals like George Best.
