A 51-year-old Orono woman died Monday, Nov. 23, after she was hit by multiple vehicles while walking on Shoreline Drive.

The victim, Lori Huddleston, who lived on Shoreline Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the Orono Police Department responded to a call of an accident involving a pedestrian and several vehicles on Shoreline Drive, just east of Orono Orchard Road.

There, officers found that the pedestrian had suffered fatal injuries. Huddleston was identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office through fingerprints yesterday.

Shoreline Drive was closed for several hours while Orono Police, with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Wayzata Police Department and Long Lake Fire Department, investigated the accident.

The department had identified up to four vehicles that may have been involved in or witnessed the accident, although it's unknown how Huddleston was hit or if any additional vehicles may have been involved.

As of this morning, a police department source indicated that no further information was available, but added that the department's investigation will continue.

Orono Hires Tonka Bay City Administrator
At its meeting Monday night, the Orono City Council approved the hiring of Tonka Bay City Administrator Jessica Loftus as the city's next administrator.

Loftus, who was a finalist for the position last year when the council hired Bill Wells, will start her new position on April 1, following a maternity leave.

Councilmember Jim Murphy was excited about the hire, noting that because of the complex nature of the issues the city faces with Lake Minnetonka, Loftus is a natural fit for the job.
