Sunderbans is an unusual World Heritage Site. A delta with 102 islands of Mangrove Forest and supposedly 274 tigers. That is the "official" estimate which I sincerely doubt. One half of the jungle is under water at high tide, and with all the Magroves, you have to be lucky to see a Bengal Tiger swimming from island to island or on the mud flats at low tide.
These tigers are man-eaters. Much easier to catch a villager than an animal and the islands closest to settlements have chain nets around them. Even if we didn't see a tiger, Sunderbans would be totally unlike anything else seen during in this India visit.
Oh cool you actually got to stay in the reserve!
