Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, a public hospital built by Huey Long, was forcibly closed by LSU Medical System after Katrina, though the bottom three floors were cleaned and readied for reopening. LSU Medical Systems, with the blessing of state, federal and local "leaders", is choosing instead to demolish an entire neighborhood, lower Mid City, for a "new" teaching hospital, rather than reopen Charity Hospital. Over 1000 people gathered for a second line on August 31st, 2009, in front of Charity Hospital, to send a clear message: reopen Charity Hospital now!
Great video! Thanks for coming out
