This made me tear up. It was natural for the grandson to say what he did. He possibly genuinely felt a hatred for Rudolf Hoess. But in his shoes, I may have said the same thing, in an effort to comfort the audience, to share the emotional bond with them. Human emotions are a scary thing.

@HalalKafir would hate to be in that situation myself.

@MrJimmyboy1972 I would think most people are very much torn in that type of situation. Most if not all the children of Nazis experienced their fathers as loving and caring - totally normal behavior you'd expect from a parent. To then have to reconcile that personal side with the unspeakable things some of these men did outside the home and come to terms with it all most be incredibly difficult (to deal with).

@HalalKafir probably as a close family member it would be hard to believe that your father/grandfather would be capable of such things. what a choice, love him or hate him.

@MrJimmyboy1972 Yeah, he is not to blame, of course, but in Part 1 he talks about his father, Hans-Jürgen Höß, never disavowing Nazism even as he got older. He also says that he cut off all contact with him in 1984 after the birth of his daughter.

he is not to blame, nor his father. its his grandfather that followed the leader and took in the anti jewish propoganda. and carried out the orders. he was german, very strict, very orderly. a robot of the regime.
