  • I have a microphone that I want to use to record a conference table conversation with a couple other people. Now when I try to direct record into my PC laptop, it comes out way to low in volume. Will this boost the signal to a much higher level? Is this the same as what phantom power does? I'm recording interviews where I just want to set a condenser mike down on the table about 4feet away, not hold it close to my mouth. Thank you.

  • 4 feet away won't work well - you will need to be closer in order to pick up a decent signal. A condensor mic built for that purpose is what you will need and a preamp to run it into you laptop. Phantom power is for running condensor mics and not dynamic ones. Otherwise go for a handheld recorder designed for that purpose.

  • Very helpful. Thank you!

  • Great video. Thanks¡¡

  • This applies to common dynamic mics.

Condenser microphones need to be a bit further back as they are much more sensitive.
