Hey there, folks.

Got another Old Blind Dogs song here. This is a rather sad song, but Old Blind Dogs manages to make it sound uplifting and wonderful.

Hope you enjoy it. It comes from the album Legacy.

--Lyrics--

Oh, as I get doon by Strichen Toon, one misty mornin' early
Heard a lassie sair lament for her true love ne'er returnin'

Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, where oft times I been cheery
Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, there I lost my dearie

Well I'll put on my goon o' green, it's a forsaken token
To tell the laddies roundabout that the bonds of love are broken

Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, where oft times I been cheery
Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, there I lost my dearie

There's many a horse has snappert an' fa'n and risen again fu' rarely
There's many a laddies that's lost 'is love an' gotten another right early

Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, where oft times I been cheery
Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, there I lost my dearie

So I'll gang back to Strichen toon, where I was bred an' born in
I'll get me another lad, who'll marry me high in the mornin'

Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, where oft times I been cheery
Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, there I lost my dearie

Oh, as I get doon by Strichen Toon, one misty mornin' early
Heard a lassie sair lament for her true love ne'er returnin'

Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, where oft times I been cheery
Fare ye weel ye Mormond Braes, there I lost my dearie

  • I miss Ian Benzie, his voice is so amazing.

  • excellent entertainment! slainte'

  • I've seen this line up live at Chico California as well as at the Old Fruit Market at Glasgow - this is why we manifest in this World.

  • It's the song, as much as Old Blind Dogs arrangement of it that is uplifting. Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger's version -- the first version of it I heard -- is just as uplifting.

  • wonderful & great singing from Jim Malcolm
