While training budgets are shrinking, the need for attorneys and staff to expand practical legal skills is becoming even more critical. This learning challenge requires law firm professional development departments and library staff to be creative in how they plan and execute successful training programs.

This videotape features Amy George, Manager of Professional Development and Training at Nixon Peabody, and Jane Eiselein, Director of Professional Development at Ropes & Gray. They will share their unique perspective on training issues faced by law firms in the current economic environment and the role of library professionals in helping to meet those challenges. Sara Eakes, Director of Library & Research Services at Nixon Peabody, serves as program moderator.

This is the fifth and final program in a series moderated by PLL members to provide a primer in law firm management from the view point of firm managers and administrators. The series is part of a two year program undertaken by the Private Law Libraries Special Interest Section (PLL-SIS) of AALL. The goal is to identify significant changes taking place in the legal world, to understand how these changes provide opportunities for assuming leadership roles, and to develop concrete plans for librarians to become leaders within their organizations. The culmination of these efforts, the Change as Action Summit, will take place in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
