People wanted to know if the Alias could handle freeway speeds, and the video clip here from the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE is a great example of its capabilities. The event was from the Knockout Stage on June 30, 2010 where cars were tested for their Freeway Acceleration abilities. Vehicles had to accelerate from 40 to 65 mph (64 -- 105 kph) in nine (9) seconds or less. This test will be conducted by Consumers Union, using a speed pad to confirm a 40 mph starting speed and a radar gun and stopwatch to confirm acceleration to 65 mph in less than 9 seconds. The test simulates a freeway merge to ensure the X PRIZE cars could merge safely onto a freeway. According to the results published by The X PRIZE Foundation, this was one of the Alias' best events, posting a time of 5 seconds, which was bested only by the lightweight X-Tracers from the Tandem Class and the RaceAbout with its four expensive motors, one for each wheel. The Alias has only one. So, now you know what it's like to see the Alias flying by you on the freeway.
