Qalandiya Checkpoint: West Bank 2010

Since the completion of Israel's apartheid wall which separates the West Bank from Jerusalem and the rest of Israel, thousands of Palestinians are forced to use the Qalandiya Checkpoint outside Ramallah. People travel back and forth each day for school, work, family, medical needs, etc. The experience is inhumane and can be humiliating. Once inside the checkpoint, there are no bathrooms, water fountains, or places to sit. The wait sometimes takes hours. On this day it took 30 minutes.

I have been to oPt 7 times since 2005, and remain FLAMING MAD at how my US TAX $ is wasted on such abominations as TERMINALS, APARTHEID WALLS and THE OCCUPATION of indigenous people in the so called holy land who have been denied the INALIENABLE HUMAN RIGHT of FREEDOM AND Movement.

Doing what i can @ WeAreWideAwake + praying withour ceasing that the US will WAKE UP. little sister in solidarity and in great distress for all your suffering who won't back down-or SHUT UP!

My first trip through Qalandiya checkpoint was in 2005-before THE TERMINAL was built!

I cringed when I saw the watchtowers small window lit up, and considered how easy it would be to be shot at, the ground was rocky, uneven, and littered with debris and my arthritic knees crackled more than usual as I navigated the uneven ground, and thought: Thank God for that full moon; at least theres a little light in this darkness. How do old people get around in this environment?
