In this video, I am hiking with my husband Lynn Jorde in Oahu, Hawaii March 2011. I hike regularly and still teach aerobics, two classes a week. I have been teaching aerobics for 27 years. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis two years ago, July 2009. In my non-fiction book, "Eight Fingers and Eight Toes: Accepting Life's Challenges" I have shown many examples of overcoming challenges and obstacles. These include: having my only two children born with multiple disabilities caused by Miller syndrome (which affects face and limb development), autism, a lung disease called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesea (PCD), ADHD, OCD and depression, and also my personal challenges of divorce, single parenting, poverty, and bulimia. During the editing process of publishing my book, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I wrote my story, had my editor edit it, and was open to including it in the book. My daughter, Heather, is an avid reader of memoirs and biographies. She said, "Mom, you can't do this to your readers! They have just read through your many challenges and the challenges of your children and have hope for a positive, feel good ending. You can't end the book with, "And now my recent challenge is to overcome and learn to accept MS." I valued her opinion and the opinion of my editor (who said this could be for another book) and chose not to include this chapter in "Eight Fingers and Eight Toes." However, I believe many people can be inspired by my "MS" story so I am including it on my youTube channel and the story is on my blog at blog.debbiejorde.com. The space allowed here isn't long enough for my story. Please share my story with those people you know who have MS or a loved one with MS. I am doing better now than I was even two years ago. I use a daily injection called Copaxone and I am fortunate because it is working! I have no new symptoms and the symptoms I had have improved. I have learned how to take good care of myself and I want to inspire other people. Thank you! Debbie jorde
