or a little airsteam activated propeller in the tailsection of the bomb which would spin a small dc current generator and activate and energize an electromagnet in the nose ?

had those b17's possesed bombs with what was called at the time " mad " or magnetic anamolie detectors as were fitted to ww 2 era torpedos for submarines and had simple control surfces governened by the nose mounted MAD they might have made short work of admiral nagumo ?

strawberry patrols of PBY Catalinas EXTENDING OUT IN A WHEELSPOKE SEARCH OR THE SEA APPROACHES TO MIDWAY ISLAND!STRAWBERRY NINE...the PBY which finally spotted the imperial japanese invasion fleet made it possible to defend the island from it's approach!the bombardment fleet and attack ships were later discovered!!a great debt is owesd on this occassion to these marvelous aircraft built by Consolidated and under licence by GM!
