LES resident speaking, Jason G. speaks to me about his thoughts and feelings about gentrification, the changes that have made the neighborhood almost unrecognizable and other issues including homelessness.

Jason asked me to post this link to an art gallery in the neighborhood.

I am including a link to a rally fighting mass eviction
and there are links as well for people interested in housing issues.

  • Please say prayers for Jason who is now fighting cancer. He is starting radiation treatment.

  • Folks: Jason is now fighting cancer so send him prayers. Thank you.

  • How old did he say he was? I expected him to be under 25.

  • @bugstrut Thank you for asking about Jason's age. He is in his early 30's and quite ill. He has lymphoma -- feel free to donate your blood to help him and Americans in need. I donated my white blood cells twice. A two hour process. Again thank you so much for your concern re: his age.

  • Its a shame how the L.E.S. is losing its culture, its being ran down by "Hipsters,Yuppies" or whatever you wanna call them,Its sad to see the Heart of NY (In My Opinion) Die out slowly and rise in a very different culture...SIGH

SAVE THE LES THE CITY THAT I LOVED

  • Thank you Jason for your strong opinions.

But im still trying to figure out what exactly are the "Changes" going on in LES?

  • Thank you so much Suzannah for this real life perspective from one of the people who makes New York what it is.

New York is not a gentrified, sterile yuppie ville. It's supposed to be a city of soul.

I appreciate your work Suzannah, truly a great woman you are.

  • Hang in there Jason - you're an important part of NYC, of its community, and I'm so glad there are people like Suzannah to record your words and make your experience visible to the rest of us.
