Orono High School Student Senate honored

The Minnesota Association of Student Councils has recognized the Orono Student Senate as one of five outstanding student councils.

This is the 14th consecutive year OHS has received the honor.

This year the senate set a new record during its annual blood drive, collecting 107 units from students, staff and other district employees. The event chairs - Shelby Barnum, Erin Garfield, Caitlin Quilty and Mollie Smith - had set a goal of 100 units.

Orono students also continue to be well represented at the state level. Cari Browne was elected MSCA secretary at the recent state convention in Austin, Minnesota. She will replace classmate Stephanie Whitman, who held the position during 2008-09. T.J. Baurle was recognized for his service as the Hennepin Division vice president this year.

OHS Social Studies teacher Doug Erickson has served as the Student Senate advisor for the past 28 years.
