How to Piece a Basic Log Cabin Quilt Block

Piece a simple log cabin block in the "picture frames" style from a 3 x 3-inch center square and 2-inch wide logs using the basic technique from my book, Modern Log Cabin Quilting. In this example piece, a larger center and tiers of logs in the same fabrics create a graphic and striking block that pieces up quickly, but you can also use this same basic piecing technique with a smaller center, the traditional reflecting sunshine and shadow color arrangement, or any other design choices you prefer.
