Queensland's "Taco Den" - At four locations in Brisbane/Gold Coast, these now defunct restaurants certainly worked their 'mexican magic' back in the eighties - main courses "from around $3".

Taco Den closed around 1985 at the same time as Bonanza Family Restaurants. The old 'Taco' buildings can still be found in Capalaba and Kedron.

  • Does anyone remember that restaurant chain from around 1988 called "Toucano Char"?? NO ONE I KNOW remembers it. :D

  • @Tanru2000 Yes I remember it, they operated a site on Logan Road Mount Gravatt as well as at Kedron Brook. Quite bizarre format, all you can eat salad etc but from platters they brought around to the tables, rather than from a Salad Bar like Sizzler. I didn't like it and never returned. Now their is a child care centre at the old Mount Gravatt site - cheers.

  • Do we have any restaurants which serve the same food as taco den?

  • I guess Montezumas do - and they occupy the same old Taco Den buildings. Cheers

  • On several occasions, I have heard of an Australian restaurant called "Taco Bill". Does anyone know if they are still in business?

  • I love Montezumas at Kedron and thanks to your video Pugsley I just released it used to be Taco Den! You learn a new thing every day LOL

  • Thanks Pugsley2005 for posting this... takes me back.

  • I think it was on the opposite side of the road of KFC (Gold Coast Highway), just to the north of KFC near Robert Street.

  • What was actual address and I'll have a look.

  • Im not sure but I suspect that it was bulldozed down recently as part of the overall widing of the Gold Coast Highway through Labrador....
