Twenty years ago, Soviet troops retreated from Afghanistan ending their 10-year campaign.
Today the US is stuck in its own prolonged battle in Afghanistan and Russia is once again asserting its influence, offering NATO forces new supply routes.
Al Jazeera's Hamish Macdonald traveled to a town once known as "Little Moscow", Puli-khumri, in the northern Province of Baghlan.

  • @motowa01 "russia was defeated in Afghanistan" - 14000 Soviets and 1.5 million Afghans died. It was never a Soviet defeat. It was not soviet-Afghan War. It was war between two groups of Afghans, one supported by USSR and the other by Pakistan and USA. Afghan DRA Army and USSR army were fighting against the Mujahideen. At most, one can call it a civil war with external intervention. (DRA: Democratic Republic of Afghanistan)

  • @protikmaitra THe USSR was defending the secular democratic afgan government against reloigious nuts (ofcourse supported by the US, who else?)

  • man, i am a pakistani, i know af-pak have their disagreements, and we dislike eachother, but remember what pakistan has done for u, and remember tht u r muslims as we r, i h8 our politicians, and the role they have had in ravaging ur country, and getting aid from those filthy american pigs, we h8 them too, but we r stuck with them, we want to fight alongside the afghan ppl to rid these kafirs once and for all fom this region, we shall be one to fight these kuffar, we r brothers

  • @LordKaisen Several words of advice, don't post your ignorant american shit here without real historical backing.

  • @LordKaisen They leech? Why are you in the mid east? To "help" the people there? No your there to leech off of Afghanistan for its vast oil supply. Dont be hypocritical.

  • russia always does this. they leech in the background, blaming the U.S for our proactive steps while they quickly secure little trade deals and mining rights. Dumb ass Putin, can dish the big talk but can't take any himself.

  • @surlagachette2 well, we are a religious bunch so what do you expect? That's changing slowly

  • Remember no one ever conquered Afghanistan. Afghans are strong-willed opponent in the war spirit is the main weapon of war. That's why we respect the Afghans and they respect us. Do not know what their opinion about the U.S. military. Should not have started a war you do not win, they fight for their land and you are for what?. From Russia with Love =)

  • @moinoshin A Muslim trying to elicit anger towards Jews from Hindus? That has to be the strangest shit I've seen all night. Next thing you know, they killed Guru Nanak and Zarathustra too.

From what I saw living in Gurgaon and Hyderabad for a year, Indians are doing a damn good job of enslaving each other. No need for a usury system, all wars are kept quite, and the West calls it "progress" and "growth". Well done!
