In Latin America, Mulattos have been accepted for centuries. That's why there are very few "real" Whites in most Latin American countries. Even among the traditional elite.

Whiteness in Latin America is about economic privilege. Latinos don't like "real" Whites. They're not really fond of our pasty skin and flat asses. Their idea of beauty is a light-skinned Mulatto......ie. Jennifer Lopez, Eva Mendes, "the almost Whites".

You seem to suggest that blacks are of a high economic strata in Brazil which is not true and if you go to any latin American country you will find a prosperous white elite which does secretly look down on it's members who marry "down" as you say with blacks or others. Yes, there is economic racism, BUT for centuries now, Brazilians have OPENLY PRACTICED miscegenation. Pure Whites in Brazil are rare. Especially north and east of Rio.

You know, you go to a sugar plantation owner's estate, and his daughter-in-law is pitch black. His grand kids are blacker than the maids and the nannies.

No one thinks anything of it.

Marrying Black in Brazil used to mean "marrying down", in social-economic terms, but Brazilians were never into apartheid.
