Pete Sandford & Steve Holmes are travelling to Buenos Aires in January 2009 and setting out on a pair of 1940s Norton motorbikes to retrace Che Guvara's 1952 epic trip that was eventually made into the movie The Motorcycle Diaries.
The route:
ARGENTINA: Buenos Aires, Miramar, Bahia Blanca, Bariloche.
CHILE: Temuco, Santiago, Valparaiso, Antofagasta, Chuquicamata.
PERU: Titicaca, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lima, Pucallpa, Iquitos.
COLOMBIA: Bogota.
VENEZUELA: Caracas.

This trip was pivotal in transforming the unknown Ernesto Guevara into Che Guevara the iconic man he later became.

The poverty, disease, persecution and injustice Che witnessed at first hand on his travels are what started him down the path to becoming a freedom-fighting revolutionary.

For this reason, we have dubbed this route the Road to Revolution - hence the name for our trip - Revolution Road.

p.s. Backing track is of course by The Clash. Respect to Mick, Paul & Topper. R.I.P. Joe :(

  • "The day is not far distant when three Stars & Stripes at three equidistant points will mark our territory: one at the North Pole, another at the Panama Canal and the third at the South Pole. The whole hemisphere will be ours in fact as, by virtue of our superiority of race, it already is ours morally."
