This is a record by 2 groups. Recorded in 1965 by Mitchell Bullock and the Confessions, then released as by The Radiants in late '66. Try to follow. The Confessions broke up after their '65 session but Chess Records didn't want to lose their great lead, Mitchell Bullock. The Radiants followed their 2 big hits, 'Voice Your Choice' and 'Ain't No Big Thing' by losing co-lead Leonard Caston Jr.in '65. Then in '66, Maurice 'Mac' McAlister left. So The Confessions (Bullock) had no group, the Radiants no lead singers and Chess had a great record sitting on the shelf. What to do! What to do! The Radiants had the name and Bullock the voice, so he was added to the Radiants, and their next release was "Kind Of Bad' by the Confessions (or should I say The Radiants). Oh, so you know what I mean. Anyhow, it became a hit in spring of '67. Hope you got all that. Wonder what happened to the rest of the Confessions. Enjoy a nice Chicago disc. Sometimes it gets sooo confusing. A Universal Music Group recording.

  • I wonder if any of these guys are still alive. I suppose at the most they'd be in their late 60's / early 70's....so they could be. It sure would be cool to track one or more of 'em down, and get the real deal on why this group didn't hit the top and stay there for a long time. Perhaps some entertainment / trade publication would be a place to put an ad in, "in search of" the Radiants. Time is running out, I'd say. Damn...these guys were good!

  • glad you liked this. the last i saw anything of these guys was leonard caston jr. producing the vocal tracks on minnie riperton's last album after she had passed. he co-wrote 'give me time'. how appropriate, but sad as he had sung so many times with her backing up chess artists in the 60's. minnie's album was 1980, i think, and done in LA. i'll see if i can track anything down, as you have me curious now. thanks for watching and taking time to comment.

  • didn't bullock also sing lead on the radiants "hold on" and "i don't want to face the truth"? he was a gr8 singer! now only if he had joined the radiants and maurice mccalister had stayed on board. they could've enjoyed dells type success @ chess with bullock on the harder edge and mcalister on the higher smoother end. mcalister actually rejoined the radiants at twinight and he and bullock traded leads on "sunshine girl" in '71 but by then their heyday was sadly over.

  • right on the money. never understood this group not breaking out huge. when the material and production was top rate, few groups were better. they seemed to be creating 'a sound'.

  • Hopefully you get this. From arriving in Chicago in Dec. 66, I have always loved this song. I guess it was just my luck but would you believe I have looked for this song for over 40 years and now here it is. Thanks for the post. bilbo2shire

  • Don't it make you think of the Dells with

    the lead-trades?

Oddly enough, the record was produced in Chicago and there is definitely hints

of Marvin jr/Johnny Carter in it.

    Great,great record, God Damn It!!!!!!

  • This is Real Music!

  • Love this group. Thanks for sharing this. Does anyone know about two songs that came out in the late 60's called "I was wrong" and "Strange Voice"? I seem to recall a group that may have been called The Imaginations, also.

  • Today for me to find other people curious about the Radiants was so great because as a groupie I traveled to Chicago to see them from Balto,Md because

I had a crush on Leonard Castin. Oh my goodness I must have been 17 years old.

What wonderful years those were, where ever you are Leonard you were a perfect gentleman. Stll love the Radiants LWC
