After three hours riding a moped in Vietnam you are just like one of them, everything else in the world doesn't matter. Just go with the flow and you are fine.

@Architectonic01: true, the road toll is high and helmets are great, they also adapted them very quickly, some people even keep'em on for shopping :-) what I did not mention is that I refer to driving during daylight. This is actually very important as driving by night is super dangerous as there is little roadlight, people speed - often drunk and/or drugged and I never do this.You seldomly see crashes during daytime except maybe on the big roads around the center where all trucks are driving.

It is dangerous. The fact is that Vietnam has a very high per capita road toll, though it is by no means the worst in the world.

riding in HCMC is pure fun, it looks dangerous, but the flow goes smooth ad slowy but steadily. Driving in the street is much less chaotic than anybody would imagine, just some balance and a lot of patience is required. The honking is nothing negative, it shall only warn the others. @ ntn1987: get yourself a passport and step out of your USA (you can only be american, nobody else is so aro/ignorant) to see how free the world outside your little and stupid world is...
